John Murrell one of first two winners of new Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards

Rocky Mountain OutlookApril 21, 2005.   In a gala ceremony at The Banff Centre on April 15, Murrell and internationally renowned architect Douglas Cardinal each received a newly minted medal and a cheque from Alberta’s Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Norman Kwong.

Parks boss appointed to Banff Centre Board

Rocky Mountain OutlookApril 21, 2005.   Parks Canada’s chief executive officer has been appointed to the Board of Governors of The Banff Centre. Alan Latourelle was appointed last week to a three-year term by Phil Ponting, chair of the Centre’s Board of Governors.

Alberta Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet created with Banff Centre assistance

One of the largest and most extravagant original productions ever mounted by Alberta Ballet will kick off its 39th season this fall. Romeo and Juliet hits the stage September 10. “With the participation of The Banff Centre, we will be creating a brand new production on the grand scale of what I have only experienced working in the great opera houses of Europe,” says artistic director Jean Grand-Maitre.

Indigenous Women in Leadership Forum receives federal funding

Canadian HeritageApril 11, 2005 The federal government announced $104,746 in funding for two projects which will serve Aboriginal women in Alberta. The Banff Centre for Continuing Education will receive $50,000 for the second annual Indigenous Women in Leadership Forum. The week-long event will offer participants practical experience in the areas of facilitation and team-building to help them develop strategies for financial self-reliance.
