Miró Quartet among Avery Fisher career grant recipients

The Avery Fisher artist programme has announced this year’s career grant recipients: violinist James Ehnes, cellist Priscilla Lee, the Miró Quartet, and pianist Shai Wosner. Designed to give professional assistance and recognition to rising young instrumentalists, the Lincoln Center programme broke new ground this year by awarding a grant to a chamber music ensemble for the first time. The award carries a US$15,000 stipend..… Formed at Ohio’s Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 1995, the Miró Quartet (violinists Daniel Ching and Sandy Yamamoto, violist John Largess, and cellist Josh Gindele) is currently on the faculty of the University of Texas at Austin. The group’s other awards include first prize at the Banff International String Quartet Competition in 1998 and the Naumburg Chamber Music Award in 2000.
