Atwood garners Banff Centre arts prize

Margaret AtwoodCBC ArtsJuly 20, 2005. Canadian novelist and poet Margaret Atwood is the recipient of The Banff Centre’s 2005 National Arts Award. The Alberta arts institution made the announcement Wednesday, calling Atwood a “literary star whose work transcends Canada’s borders.” The award, which has been given since 1951, recognizes Canadian artists in the visual, literary or performing arts. It comes with a $5,000 cash prize and a two-week creative residency at The Banff Centre’s Leighton Artists’ Studios.

Allan Harding MacKay selected to design veterans’ memorial in Ontario

Canada NewsWireJuly 11, 2005. The Ontario government has selected a well-known Canadian war artist and landscape architectural firm to design and construct a memorial in honour of Canada’s military veterans. The team of Allan Harding MacKay and Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg has been awarded the contract for the Veterans’ Memorial following a nationwide competition.

Artist Allan Harding MacKay has had a long and multi-faceted career in the visual arts as a gallery director/curator, arts administrator and professional artist&hellip. He has also participated in four co-production projects with the Banff Centre.
